Homegroup #1 Recap

Salvation is....

We had a lively discussion about what we thought Brian McClaren was saying regarding the definition of salvation (and what he was not saying). The discussion questions challenged us to state what our definition of salvation was and how we planned to better live that out. I think it's safe to say we all agreed that salvation is forgiveness of sin through Jesus' death on the cross, thereby salvation from hell, but we also acknowledged that: everyone has different journeys in coming to know Christ; there has to be some sort of decision to follow Christ at some point, even if it's not a huge moment; salvation is only the beginning of the Christian's journey and relationship with Christ and should not be considered the finish line.

  1. Hi everyone. Just wanted you to know I think your weekly discussion/bible study Friday night group is going to be OUTSTANDING!! EVERYONE OF YOU GUYS HAS A LOT TO OFFER and I know God will use your group discussions to promote real growth and closer relationships in Christ.

One thing to encourage you. It is good to ask questions. Christianity is not afraid of any honest questions. The truth does not have to be feared. It can be searched out with open discussion which is then resolved with careful inquiry into the Bible itself for answers.

SPECIAL ENCOURAGEMENT FROM YOUR PASTOR/DAD/GRANDPA/FATHER-IN-LAW: Your weekly meeting will give you an opportunity to do what every Christian is directed by God to do, namely follow the example of the Bereans in the Book of Acts: Always check out all teaching by the Bible. And always be ready to re-examine your faith with an open mind. And always question the things you are taugtht to be sure they are scriptural. The Bereans made sure that even the apostles' teachings were in line with what was written: "Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true" (Acts 17:11).

Be careful to check out all teaching by the Word. Keep those things that prove to be true, toss those things that the Scriptures reveal as false. The book you have chosen for your discussion starter has much of both in it. As with all books you sift for the truth and toss the rest out. Be careful as you seek to determine which is which. The bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice for Christians. The Lord will help you guys to identify what is true and what is false when you carefully review what His Word actually says. Love in Christ and great searching in His word.
